Healthcare is very important: you may need medical assistance and, if you are not in possession of any appropriate documents, medical assistance can be very expensive. European Health Insurance Card are issued by the official body responsible for healthcare in your Country (AOK, etc.).
Non-EU citizens are requested to take out private health insurance before leaving their home country and to obtain a consular declaration of its validity for Italy.
