Flaminio Squazzoni is Assistant Professor of Economic Sociology at University of Brescia, where he teaches "Sociology of Organisations". He is Head of GECS-Research Group on Experimental and Computational Sociology (Department of Social Sciences, University of Brescia) and review editor of JASSS-The Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation.

He has been Scientific Chair of the International Workshop EPOS Epistemological Perspectives on Simulation, II Edition (Brescia, October 2006) and of the Fifth Conference of the European Social Simulation Association (Brescia, September 2008). He is Director of the First ESSA Summer School in Social Simulation (Brescia, September 2010).

His research interest is social simulation. In particular, he is doing research on the modelling and understanding of social norms and institutions in economic systems, by combining experimental and simulation methods. Examples of this are: the study of trust and reputation in economic systems, the study of inter-organisational collaboration in industrial clusters and the study of the emergence of discriminative norms on markets.

He has  published peer review articles on: Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation, Computational and Mathematical Organization Theory, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Sociological Research Online, Journal of Socio-Economics, Mind & Society, Community Development Journal, Sociologica, E-JEMED-Electronic Journal of Evolutionary Modelling and Economic Dynamics, History of Economic Ideas, Stato e Mercato, Sistemi Intelligenti, L'Industria-Rivista di politica industriale, and Intersezioni.

He has published the monograph "Simulazione sociale. Modelli ad agenti nell’indagine sociologica" (Carocci, 2008), the first coherent and comprehensive monograph on social simulation for Italian readers. He has been guest editor of the “Special Issue on Social Simulation” (Mind & Society, 2009) and has edited the volume "Epistemological Aspects of Computer Simulation in the Social Sciences" (Springer Verlag 2009).

Currently, he is writing a book on “Agent-Based Computational Sociology” (Wiley-Blackwell 2011).
