Professor Maurizio Tira was elected to the board of the European University Association (EUA)

"We have the privilege and responsibility to work side by side with the generations to come, namely the 17 million students who have trusted our associated universities" said professor Tira in Danzig during his candidature speech. "No other organization can boast of similar qualities! Universities are urged to action by our students' ideas. At the same time the responsibility of giving them an ethical and cultural project rests on our shoulders."

With 201 votes in favour, Maurizio Tira - former rector of the university of Brescia as well as former head of international affairs of the CRUI - will sit on the board of the  European University Association until 2027. 

Together with Maurizio Tira also Vincent Blondel (Rector of the University of Louvain), Marcin Palys (former Rector of the University of Warsaw), Astrid Soderbergh (Rector of the University of Stockholm) and Wim van de Donk (Rector of the University of Tilburg) got elected.

The EUA plays a crucial role in the Bologna process and in influencing the EU policies concerning higher education, research and innovation.

The board of the EUA consists of a president and eight members, all of them rectors or former rectors. The board is in charge of the definition and implementation of the Association's policy as well as the scheduling of its activity.
