A) The WTO system:
1) Basic principles of international trade;
2) After WW II: the need of international institutions for a new world order;
3) From GATT to WTO, the trade negotiations from Dillon to Uruguay Round;
4) The WTO Structure and functions;
5) The Doha Agenda and the WTO negotiations;
6) Trade and Aid;
7) Anti-dumping, competition policy and government procurements in WTO
8) The commercial disputes in the WTO system;
9) The commercial disputes between the EU and US;
10) Regional trade agreements;
11) Determinants and flows of foreign direct investments;
B) The EU trade policy
12) EU trade policy aims and working;
13) EU bilateral trade agreements: Mediterranean countries, Asia, Latin
America, USA, Russia,
14) EU unilateral trade policy
15) EU trade defence instruments (in the fields of export and import);
16) EU trade in services policy;
C) The impact of the 2007-2012 crisis on international trade.
The material for the course will be available at the University bookshop: CLUB Via San Faustino 35/G
The exams will be in written form. Four questions will be submitted to the students. The students having submitted the paper will be allowed to choose and answer two questions among the four submitted.
The course will be mainly based on frontal lectures. Active participation of the students will be stimulated. Students will be asked to prepare and discuss, by the end of the course, a report. The paper submitted will be evaluated and considered as part of the final exam.
