We recommend building physics.
At the end of the course the student will know the main physical principles to design and verify the low energy buildings and how to calculate it using a PHPP software, excel tool used for calculating the energy efficiency and design building following the Passivehouse standard. The Focuses will be: The reduction of energy consumptions; Building energy efficiency improvement; The human comfort and the indoor quality and climatic conditions;
Buildings are responsible for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions in the EU and the European Council emphasised the need to increase to energy efficiency in the Union so as to achieve the objective of reducing by 20% the Union's energy consumption by 2020. The aim of the course is to know the main physical laws governing the energy efficiency of buildings. Particular attention will be given to the analysis of the building envelope.
Classroom Slides prepared by the professor, PHPP software manual. Students have to buy the Student license of PHPP software in the beginning of the course, in order to follow the lectures and to prepare the project for the exam.
Lectures; Exercises in the classroom; Project to be done in the classroom and at home calculated with PHPP software and drawn with SketchUp.
The exam will be based on the oral exposure of the course content and discussion on the work being realised.
During the course, the student, in addition to follow the lectures, should prepare: - Excel file with the application of the concepts learned; - Energy analysis and the following improvement project of a building designed by the student using PHPP software.
