Abstract

TOPCSP

Solar power is generated by capturing energy from sunlight. What happens when the sun is not shining though? This can be a challenge for grid-tied solar power systems and a great opportunity for concentrating solar power (CSP). With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the TOPCSP project will train 10 doctoral candidates in the CSP industry. CSP with thermal energy storage is a key technology that supports the transition to a sustainable energy system. However, it requires innovation to become cost-effective, reliable and environmentally friendly. As such, TOPCSP will reduce the cost of current CSP plants, increase the temperature of the heat transfer media, develop more efficient power blocks and optimise plant design.
