Yared Fekade Haile and Yoseph Arefeayne Tadesse are the first two scholarship holders from the Italian ‘Galileo Galilei’ Institute in Addis Ababa to graduate from the Università di Brescia. The two new graduates were awarded their degrees in Computer Science and Engineering on Wednesday 9 September, having completed their studies thanks to the scholarship that the University of Brescia awards to students who have obtained their school-leaving certificate at the Italian State Comprehensive School in the Ethiopian capital.

This achievement marks the first tangible result of the collaboration launched in the 2021/2022 academic year by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Internationalisation, Prof. Roberto Ranzi, with the “Galileo Galilei” High School, founded in the 1950s to provide education for the Italian community in the Ethiopian capital and to promote the Italian language and culture in an international context.

“I am very pleased with this first result achieved as part of the collaboration in support of internationalisation, which was launched with foresight in partnership with the ‘Galileo Galilei’ High School,” commented Prof. Ranzi. “I wish the new graduates every success as they continue their studies at master’s level at the University of Brescia.”

Sincere appreciation was also expressed by the Rector, Prof. Francesco Castelli, who in May 2025 visited the Italian Cultural Institute in Addis Ababa, which houses the G. Galilei Institute.
