This workshop will introduce the basics of meta-analysis focusing on interventions. Meta-analysis is a statistical method used to systematically combine and analyze the results of multiple studies that evaluate the effectiveness of a specific intervention or treatment. This type of meta-analysis is commonly used in fields such as education, psychology, medicine, and social sciences to inform evidence-based practice and policy. Topics covered include how to extract effect sizes, compute the average treatment effect, and examine heterogeneity in effects. It will also cover critical appraisal of primary studies. The session combines lecture-based instruction with hands-on exercises to support practical application of the concepts. Knowledge of basic descriptive statistics and systematic review process is assumed. Participants are required to bring a laptop computer. Participants are encouraged to bring an idea for a systematic review with a meta-analysis to the course.
