Community empowerment through participatory research: Sustainable urban environment coping with climate change

The Summer School on Community empowerment through participatory research is part of the Knowledge for Change (K4C) programme which aims at training the next generation of Community Based Researchers in the Global South and Excluded North. It was set up in 2017 by the Unesco Chair on participatory research and social responsibility of Higher Education.
Italy hosts two K4C training hubs. Respectively located at the University of Brescia and at the University of Sassari, the Watshop and the FOIST Laboratory for social policies and formative processes are the co-organisers of the Summer School.
The Summer School will take place in Brescia (Italy) from the 11th till the 20th of July 2022 and is aimed at a mixed audience made of MA and PhD students, as well as practitioners from Civil Society Organizations, Social Enterprises, Municipalities and other Administrations.

Programme overview

The Summer School is structured in four distinct yet interconnected learning slots:

  • July 1st-10th: Preparatory work (reading to be circulated)
  • July 11th-13th: Official opening, face-to-face learning, workshops, introduction to fieldwork
  • July 14th-20th: Fieldwork: community based research design
  • July 21st-22nd: On-line revisions of fieldwork and closing sessions
