Abstract

LOESS

LOESS - Literacy boost through an Operational Educational Ecosystem of Societal actors on Soil health - will map and connect multiple actors in Communities of Practice (CoPs) and engage them to provide an overview of the current level of soil related knowledge and teaching programmes and materials in an Atlas of Soil Education – Yellow Pages. LOESS will identify educational needs amongst pupils (primary and secondary levels), students (tertiary level), and society overall across the EU and Associated Countries and explore why the already existing material isn't already used broadly. The project thus will co-create courses and modules for soil education, including also virtual reality/augmented reality applications, in different stages of education and connect these with the Sustainable Development Goals and global and local challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss, co-create and test pedagogical techniques for effective knowledge flows between educators and learners and between different knowledge systems (scientific, political, individual local and collective cultural knowledge) and carry-out activities in a geographically balanced large number of EU Member States and associated countries and provide hands on activities related to soil education through Community Engaged Research and Learning. To overcome the awareness gap, LOESS will organise target group and methodology focused profound campaigns and dissemination events such to exchange on the results and ensure greater awareness. LOESS will also engage with public authorities and institutions responsible for primary, secondary and tertiary education by providing targeted recommendations for improved knowledge enhancement. Capacity building, knowledge exchange and peer-to-peer learning amongst the different target groups will accompany LOESS' education and dissmination activities.
