The Centre for the Study, Diagnosis and Treatment of Arterial Hypertension and Cardiovascular Risk (IARC) is based at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences.
The main objective of the IARC Research Centre is to promote basic and clinical research into arterial hypertension and cardiovascular risk factors. To achieve this goal, the Centre may:
- develop local, national and international research studies and projects aimed at clarifying the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying these conditions, with particular attention to possible dysregulation of biological control systems that may lead to persistently elevated blood pressure, as well as potential genetic predispositions;
- plan and conduct epidemiological studies to assess the prevalence of different diseases and develop screening programmes for the early identification of individuals at risk;
- work with the various professionals involved in the Centre's activities and in collaboration with healthcare institutions at different levels, including hospitals, local health authorities and regional health services, to develop appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic and care guidelines and pathways, also with the aim of ensuring the efficient use of resources;
- promote the advancement of knowledge and the application of innovative therapeutic interventions;
- organise national and international seminars and scientific conferences on the Centre's research topics.
