The Centre for the Study of Image- and Biomarker-Guided Radiotherapy (BIO-RT) has been established within the Department of Medical and Surgical Specialties, Radiological Sciences and Public Health (DSMC) at the University of Brescia, with its administrative headquarters located within the same Department.

The Centre aims to develop activities in the following areas:
- designing and conducting research projects aimed at developing radiotherapy techniques based on the use of imaging modalities (MRI, PET, CT, and ultrasound), with particular emphasis on implementing adaptive radiotherapy techniques to improve the cost-effectiveness of radiotherapy treatment;
- designing and conducting research projects aimed at developing radiotherapy techniques—particularly adaptive radiotherapy—based on the predictive and prognostic value of biomarkers characterising individual neoplasms, including biomarkers related to the genetic profile of tumours;
- developing collaborative activities for the collection and analysis of structured data concerning the biological foundations, applications, and outcomes of image- and biomarker-guided radiotherapy, within the broader field of precision oncology;
- developing appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic, and care pathways and recommendations for image- and biomarker-guided radiotherapy, in coordination with the various areas of expertise involved in the Centre's activities and in collaboration with healthcare and scientific institutions at different levels (ASST, ATS, the Lombardy Region, the Italian State, and scientific societies);
- promoting seminars and scientific conferences focusing on the Centre's research topics;
- organising and delivering educational and training activities, including postgraduate programmes, in accordance with the Centre's objectives;
- fostering interaction with cancer patient associations and organisations promoting radiation oncology;
- developing collaborative projects with both the Lombardy Region and the Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology (AIRO), with the aim of establishing a network focused on achieving the objectives outlined above, in collaboration with the Italian Association of Medical Physics (AIFM), the Italian Society of Medical and Interventional Radiology (SIRM), and other scientific societies involved in research on the topics addressed by the Centre;
- developing collaborative activities with national and international centres sharing similar areas of interest, with particular emphasis on promoting and coordinating, at local, national, and international levels, the exchange of information and initiatives aimed at fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in pursuit of the Centre's objectives, including through the establishment or promotion of appropriate organisational arrangements, as well as agreements and conventions with public and private institutions and organisations in Italy and abroad.
