Polaroid Eyewear renews its support for Fondazione Veronesi, funding for the 2nd consecutive year the project led by Dr. Rezzola, who is committed to understanding the role of the immune system in uveal melanoma, to find new therapeutic targets.
Among primary intraocular tumors in adults, the most common is uveal melanoma, which affects about 400-500 people in Italy every year.
This tumor has a poor prognosis in approximately 1 out of 3 patients, often due to the formation of liver metastases. In this advanced stage, only a small percentage of cases with specific genetic and molecular characteristics can be treated pharmacologically: therefore, new treatment strategies need to be identified.
Studying the mechanisms that allow uveal melanoma to reprogram the immune system, preventing it from attacking the tumor and promoting its growth and metastatic spread, is the objective of the research project led by Dr. Sara Rezzola of the University of Brescia.
Her work is supported by Polaroid Eyewear, a global player in the eyewear industry that produces and distributes sunglasses and optical frames for children, teenagers, and adults, thus renewing its support for the scientific research promoted by Fondazione Veronesi.
