Unibs in mourning for the passing of Rector Emeritus Prof. Augusto Preti

The University of Brescia is mourning the passing of Prof. Augusto Preti, the first Rector of the University of Brescia who remained in office for twenty-seven years from 1983 to 2010.

A native of Brescia, born in 1941, Prof. Augusto Preti had graduated in 1965 with a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Milan. A full professor of biological chemistry at the Milanese university since 1980, in 1982 he had exercised the option to transfer to the newly established University of Brescia, immediately shaping himself as one of the university's most prominent personalities.

Under his leadership The University of Brescia achieved important milestones in scientific and cultural terms.

Prof. Preti was a promoter of the construction of the North Campus and the acquisition and restoration of historic buildings in the center of Brescia, intended to house the University's various faculties. This choice, shared with local authorities, aimed at integrating the University into the urban fabric and enhancing the city's architectural heritage.

The University Community remembers with deep gratitude its Rector Emeritus who dedicated his life to knowledge, research, and young people, contributing in a decisive way to the growth of the Brescian territory.
