ACTIVE BREAKS IN THE WORKPLACE

WHY TAKE ACTIVE BREAKS?

Prolonged use of display screen equipment can cause musculoskeletal problems and eye strain. Taking regular active breaks is an effective way to help prevent these problems by improving posture, relieving muscle tension built up during work and reducing visual fatigue.

Active breaks can therefore be a useful activity during the 15-minute break every 120 minutes of continuous work at a computer, as provided for by the Italian Legislative Decree No. 81/2008 (Article 175 of Title VII, “Display Screen Equipment”), as amended.

WHAT ARE ACTIVE BREAKS AND WHO CAN TAKE PART?

Active breaks consist of simple, short mobility exercises designed for all employees to help them stay active during their breaks at work.

WHEN?

Every day! Two hours after logging in for the first time using your University credentials, a pop-up notification will appear on your computer screen inviting you to take a short break. The notification will include a link to a selection of short videos featuring low- to moderate-intensity exercises that are suitable for everyone and require no equipment.

HOW LONG ARE THE ACTIVE BREAKS?

The exercises range from 2 to 10 minutes. You can choose the most suitable option depending on how much time you have available.

HOW CAN I TAKE PART?

Accessing the videos is easy:

  • Click the “Scopri come fare” (“Find out how”) button in the pop-up notification that appears on your screen two hours after your first login. You will be redirected to the Moodle platform, where the videos are available.
  • Choose the video that best suits your needs according to its duration (2, 4, 6 or 10 minutes) and type of activity (mobility or strength exercises), and start the video.
