SMART FACTORY AND ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

Research in this field is focused on the development and innovation of industrial and manufacturing systems through the integration of engineering expertise, analytical methodologies, and enabling technologies. Activities focus on innovation in production processes, the development and optimization of materials—including advanced materials and secondary materials derived from recovery and reuse processes—the definition and improvement of industrial practices, and the introduction of digital factory solutions. Technologies and methods of interest include resource management and maintenance, monitoring and control systems, advanced manufacturing technologies—including additive manufacturing and micro-machining—process and product modeling and simulation, industrial and collaborative robotics, and solutions for human-machine interaction. Activities also include the development of technical-economic and impact assessment models to support industrial policies and innovation programs for production systems.
