Health and Wellness Sciences and Technologies

Research in this field applies expertise in mechanical and industrial engineering to issues related to human health, care, and well-being. Activities include rehabilitation robotics, measurement systems for biomechanical analysis, prototyping and manufacturing technologies for prosthetics and medical devices, control systems for anesthesia and mechanical ventilation, and the development of human-machine interfaces and systems for monitoring and telemedicine. The Department conducts research in collaboration with the medical division on mechanobiology, fluid dynamics of biological systems, functional and structural modeling and simulation of biomedical devices, material and biomaterial behavior, and quality and safety management of biomedical products.
