The International Research Centre in Mechanobiology has been established at the University of Brescia, with its administrative headquarters located at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DIMI).
The Centre brings together the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DIMI) and the Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine (DMMT), and carries out its activities through a strongly interdisciplinary approach.
The Centre promotes, coordinates, and develops research and educational activities, and manages and/or provides services of general interest to the University in the following areas:
- conducting research in the field of mechanobiology;
- promoting studies and research on biological systems through a mechanobiological approach, with the ultimate aim of translating discoveries in mechanobiology into biomedical innovations;
- fostering academic and cultural exchange among students and faculty through internships and research placements at Italian and international public and private institutions pursuing objectives consistent with those of the Centre;
- developing collaborations with companies at the local, regional, national, and international levels in the field of mechanobiology research and innovation, encompassing experimental, theoretical, and computational approaches;
- collaborating with international research and academic centers in the field of mechanobiology, across experimental, theoretical, and computational domains;
- actively contributing to the international scientific community by organizing conferences and promoting the advancement of mechanobiology worldwide;
- promoting, in collaboration with Italian and international research institutions, local businesses, and public and private organizations, the organization of continuing education initiatives, national and international scientific conferences, and other events aimed at disseminating research activities in mechanobiology;
- fostering the development of interdisciplinary scientific thinking in schools of all levels, with particular emphasis on mechanobiology;
- promoting the establishment of a documentation center, an online information network and dedicated web resources, as well as the collection and dissemination of informational materials related to the Centre's areas of activity;
- collaborating with public institutions in establishing or improving services of collective interest within the Centre's areas of expertise;
- coordinating and delivering educational and training activities, including postgraduate programs, in line with the objectives of the Centre.
