The Research and Study Centre for the Conservation and Restoration of Architectural and Environmental Heritage has been established within the Department of Civil, Environmental, Architectural Engineering and Mathematics (DICATAM) at the University of Brescia, with its administrative headquarters located within the Department.
The Centre pursues the following objectives:
- analysis and surveying to support the restoration and recovery of the historic building heritage in the Brescia area;
- study of the causes of material deterioration and of methods for their conservation;
- analysis of the mechanical properties of materials and of structural response through experimental, monitoring and numerical techniques;
- study of construction techniques for the structural strengthening and/or improvement of existing buildings;
- development of experimental techniques in the field of non-destructive testing;
- educational, promotional and enhancement activities in the field of architectural and environmental heritage conservation;
- support for the activities of local authorities in the investigation and safety assessment of buildings, particularly with regard to seismic risk exposure.
