The Città Amica Study Center for Mobility Safety (CeSCAM) was established within the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Land, Environment and Mathematics (DICATAM), where it is also based.
The Centre focuses on issues relating to quality of life, particularly mobility safety in urban environments, the accessibility and quality of urban public spaces, and, in particular, the mobility needs of vulnerable road users.
The Centre’s activities are also expected to have a positive impact on the local community in Brescia. Among its key objectives is the development of a methodology for analysing road accident data in the Province of Brescia, in accordance with the agreement between the University of Brescia and the Prefecture, as well as identifying appropriate types of intervention to address critical issues.
Further objectives include:
- designing model projects for the regeneration of outdoor urban public spaces, particularly mobility infrastructure;
- monitoring the relationship between urban and territorial development and the corresponding quality of life;
- conducting activities to validate infrastructure projects and assess the safety of existing infrastructure in operation;
- carrying out scientific research and technical studies on mobility safety.
In the field of education and training, the Centre can organise seminars, professional development activities and national and international conferences, including in collaboration with public and private institutions and scientific associations. It also promotes cultural exchange among students through internship opportunities.
The Centre’s activities are supported by the use of equipment made available to the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Land, Environment and Mathematics, as well as to other departments involved in its research programmes, including departments at other universities.
For its first three years, the Centre receveid funding from several Rotary Clubs in District 2050. The District, together with EGAF Edizioni S.r.l., has also provided collaborative support for outreach activities, the organisation of seminars and conferences, and the publication of manuals.
