Students who are Italian nationals and live in another region
If you are a university student and live in another region, you can apply for temporary healthcare cover in Lombardy and choose a doctor.
Temporary healthcare cover can last between 3 and 12 months. The initial application must be made at the ‘Scelta e Revoca’ (Choice and Withdrawal) counters of the relevant ASST; any renewals for study-related reasons can also be carried out online via the Lombardy Region’s Electronic Health Record.
Students from the EU or from countries outside the European Union
EU citizens may register with the Regional Health Service (SSR) if they hold the relevant EU forms (forms E106, E109, E120, E121 – now document S1) issued by their country of origin.
Students from non-European Union countries holding a residence permit valid for more than three months, and EU citizens who are not entitled to compulsory registration or do not have adequate health cover provided by their country of origin within the EU, may also opt for voluntary registration with the Regional Health Service.
