May I take parental leave?

Yes. Parental leave may also be taken in separate periods.

DURATION
• Up to six months in total for each resident doctor.
• The overall limits applicable to both parents must also be respected.

HOW TO APPLY
• Complete and sign the “Suspension of training for parental leave” form.
• State the requested period, the child’s first name, surname and Italian tax code, and any periods of parental leave already taken by you and the other parent.
• Send the form from your institutional @unibs.it email address or personal certified email address to [email protected].
• Notify the School Director.

EFFECTS ON TRAINING
• Parental leave suspends specialist training.
• The entire period not completed must subsequently be recovered.
• At the end of the leave, submit the form for resuming specialist training, stating your return date.

SPECIAL CASE: MORE THAN 12 MONTHS OF SUSPENSION
If you have already exceeded a total of 12 months of suspension due to maternity or sickness and a new pregnancy occurs:
• you may apply to ENPAM for maternity benefit for any part of the five-month compulsory maternity period not covered, or only partly covered, by the specialist training grant, in accordance with current rules;
• the benefit equals 80% of 5/12 of the professional income declared in the year before the birth and earned in the second preceding year;
• a statutory minimum is guaranteed where no income was declared;
• parental leave does not qualify for ENPAM benefit.
