After receiving the Gold Medal from EURO (the Association of European Operational Research Societies) in July 2024, Professor Grazia Speranza, a Full Professor of Operational Research at our University, has achieved another prestigious international recognition: her appointment as an INFORMS Fellow.
INFORMS, the American association for Operations Research and Management Science, is the world’s largest and most authoritative organization in the field of decision and data sciences. During the INFORMS annual conference in Seattle, held from October 20 to 23, 2024, with over 7,400 researchers in attendance, Professor Speranza was awarded this prestigious title “for contributions to mixed-integer programming applied to transportation and logistics, as well as for academic leadership and service to international scientific and operational research societies.” Before this appointment, only one other Italian, Professor Paolo Toth of the University of Bologna, had been named an INFORMS Fellow.
The title of Fellow is reserved for those who have demonstrated exceptional achievements and significant contributions to the field over time, representing a model of worldwide excellence. To receive the title of Fellow, a candidate must be nominated by a renowned international researcher, supported by reference letters from other prominent scholars. In 2024, out of more than 40 nominations, the INFORMS expert committee selected the 12 most deserving candidates.
