In the 2025 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), one of the world's most authoritative university rankings compiled by the independent organisation Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, the Università di Brescia remains in the 601st to 700th place range globally and ranks between 23rd and 29th in Italy, out of a total of 41 universities evaluated. The ranking includes the top 1,000 universities out of over 2,500 universities examined.
In the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, the ranking of scores broken down by subject area compiled by the same agency, the Università di Brescia achieved the best results in the area of Clinical Medicine, ranking among the top 200 universities in the world (position 151-200) and in the areas of Human Biological Sciences (201-300), Medical Technology (201-300), Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (201-300), Mechanical Engineering (301-400) and Biological Sciences (401-500).
"This ranking confirms the growing visibility and quality of the research conducted by our University at an international level - comments Rector Prof. Francesco Castelli -. The indicators linked to scientific productivity, namely the number of citations (Web of Science, 2024) and the per capita productivity of the academic community, contributed most to achieving this result. This is confirmed by the QS World University Rankings 2026, in which, for the Citations per Faculty indicator, which measures the impact of scientific production, the Università di Brescia recorded a significant improvement, moving from 223rd to 124th place worldwide and ranking second in Italy, first among generalist public universities."
The ARWU is based on four other objective indicators: the number of alumni and staff who have won Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate, and the number of articles published in industry journals (Nature and Science).
