The University of Brescia condemns Hamas' attack on Israel and all forms of aggression, firmly believing that every act of violence ultimately generates more violence, cloaked in the guise of revenge and retaliation.
At this tragic time, our thoughts go out to the victims of the attack and their families. At the same time, we fear the suffering that any act of retaliation and revenge will inevitably cause to other innocent people, especially the most vulnerable: children, the elderly, and people with particular frailties.
UNIBS feels an urgent need for governments and supranational organizations to take a responsible stance, assuming the responsibility of bringing the tragic outbreak of conflict back into a framework of objective assessment of what has happened and balanced reconciliation of opposing political and social views.
The attempt to re-establish dialogue, oriented towards mutual recognition that does not deny but rather values the undeniable cultural, religious, and historical differences, could instead weaken the violence and generate a future of peaceful and respectful coexistence.
