Dr. Elena Mingotti, a DRIMI (Ph.D. in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering) doctoral student in the Metallurgy Group, placed third in the 3rd Young Researchers Competition, an international competition organized by the World Foundry Organization (WFO) as part of the 76th World Foundry Congress.

The competition, dedicated to young researchers in the foundry and metallurgy sectors, involved a comprehensive international selection process divided into five phases. After the submission of an abstract on their research, a committee composed of representatives from academia and industry selected the best entries to advance to the next phase. The selected candidates then produced a scientific video presenting their research, based on which the ten finalists invited to the world congress were chosen. The competition concluded with oral presentations of the research during the congress and the final selection of the three winners, who were announced during the congress’s closing social event.

This result attests to the high quality of the research conducted as part of the Ph.D. program. Dr. Mingotti’s work focuses on a highly topical issue of significant industrial relevance at both the national and international levels: the optimization of the performance of automotive structural components made from recycled aluminum alloys.

The research aims to combine sustainability, the circular economy, and high mechanical performance, contributing to the development of innovative solutions for the mobility of the future. It was carried out as part of the funded project Spoke 11 - MOST, which was later expanded into the NAARA project.

This important recognition confirms the international visibility of the Metallurgy group’s research activities and the value of the work carried out by young researchers at UniBs.
