Hydraulic Engineering

The group

Hydraulics deals with the behavior of the fluid state of matter in both still and moving situations, providing the fundamental tools for understanding and solving design problems typical of Civil, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering. The discipline combines the methodological exactness typical of basic subjects with the broad overview of more applied disciplines.

Research activity

The group's research and consulting activities concern hydraulic aspects typical of the Brescia area and more general problems of the discipline. Research is characterized by the joint use of experimental and numerical methodologies and theoretical analyses. The group has carried out important activities in the field of:

  • hydraulic safety of the territory (studies of flooding, debris flows, dam collapse, hazard and damage mapping),
  • study of lakes, including the implementation and management of environmental measurement networks,
  • hydraulic study of infrastructure deputed to urban drainage,
  • hydraulic invariance and sewage collection,
  • solid transport and river hydraulics.

Research results are documented by publications in prestigious international journals.
