The University of Brescia, Mantua campus, Department of Economics and Management, conducted an in-depth study on the tourism offer of the Mantua destination. The project involved students from the degree course in Business Administration and the degree course in Marketing for Made in Italy.

The research, part of the project "Generating the Future: from School to the City," aims to improve Mantua's tourism offer through a detailed analysis of its characteristics, strengths, and opportunities. Among the main findings, the importance of anchoring tourism to sustainability principles, in line with the objectives of Agenda 2030, stands out. The growth potential for Mantua's tourism is solid and based on various aspects: historical-cultural, gastronomic/artisanal, naturalistic, and related to outdoor activities.

Current tourism trends in Mantua include:

  • Outdoor tourism, slow tourism, and cycle tourism, emphasizing outdoor life and river routes.
  • Experiential tourism that connects visitors with local culture.
  • Gastronomic circuits and promotion of typical products.

Approximately 70% of tourists come from Italy, mainly from Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Piedmont, and Tuscany. The city infopoints record about 87,400 annual accesses, with requests for information primarily on cultural sites and itineraries.

The research highlighted that a more balanced distribution of tourist flows throughout the year could benefit accommodation facilities and businesses in the sector. Local businesses can improve their performance through new segments of the offer and process innovations, such as the digitization of services and the development of elements that affect the sustainability and accessibility of structures.

The project "Mantua Sustainable Destination" is evolving with new collaborations, aiming to direct tourism policies in synergy between public and private sectors, protecting the quality of life for citizens and travelers.
