Centro ESA

The Centre on hereditary ovarian and breast cancers "E.S.A." is based at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences (DSCS).

The Centre's main objectives:

  • the promotion, support, development and dissemination of studies and research on hereditary-familial neoplasms with particular regard to ovarian and breast cancers;
  • the acquisition of the specific genetic profile in subjects at risk which allows:

– family heir risk assessment,

– the definition of a clinical and instrumental surveillance program for diagnostic anticipation,

– the possible use of pharmacological/surgical measures to reduce the risk;

  • the identification of cognitive strategies to effectively deal with the information obtained and the prospective choices that will have to be faced;
  • the research and development of targeted therapies on a molecular basis: precision medicine, personalized medicine, precision care;
  • the in-depth analysis of regulatory issues and jurisprudential guidelines relating to the possibility of resorting to increasingly sophisticated and expensive therapies, hardly included in the context of current health policy.

The Centre's activities will develop in close collaboration and with support of the E.S.A. Association, born in 2007 and which has always been dedicated to raising awareness and information on oncological problems (especially for breast and ovarian cancer) both in the field of prevention and in support to improve the quality of life of the patients under treatment.
