The Research Centre on Industrial and Labour Relations “Mario Napoli” (CERIL) was established in 2024 within the Department of Law (DIGI) of the University of Brescia, evolving from the Observatory on the Labour Market and Collective Relations, which began its activity in 2005.
The Centre promotes and coordinates research and monitoring activities in the fields of labour law, industrial relations, human resources management, and workplace organisation.
CERIL brings together academics and researchers from the University of Brescia alongside scholars from other Italian and international institutions. By combining expertise in labour law, sociology of work, and labour economics, the Centre ensures a multidisciplinary approach to the study of work and its transformations.
CERIL’s research focuses on several key areas of trade union, labour, and social security law, as well as occupational health and safety. Particular attention is devoted to decentralised collective bargaining – monitored through the Observatory on Decentralised Collective Bargaining in the Brescia area – and to workplace inclusion, addressed by a dedicated working group on disability. While deeply rooted in its local context, CERIL operates with a national and international outlook. The Centre builds partnerships with Italian and foreign research institutes, applies for European and international grants, hosts visiting scholars, and engages in ongoing dialogue with social partners and public institutions in the labour sector. Its activities also include organising seminars and conferences, conducting applied research, offering postgraduate training, and publishing scientific studies, reports, and academic papers.
