The Observatory was created from the transformation of the Centre for the Study and Research of Behavioral Disorders and Neurodegenerative Diseases, which had been active since 2002.

Three-Year Activity Plan (2014-2016)
The Observatory on Psychiatric Disorders and Neurodegenerative Diseases, within the Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences, brings together the research activities of the groups led by:
- Prof. Antonio Vita, Full Professor of Psychiatry, Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences;
- Prof. Alessandro Padovani, Full Professor of Neurology, Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences;
- Prof. Massimo Gennarelli, Full Professor of Medical Genetics, Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine.
The Observatory promotes research and scientific studies in the following priority areas:
- Characterization and treatment of cognitive deficits in mental disorders;
- Neuropsychology of schizophrenia spectrum disorders and depression;
- Molecular genetics of psychiatric disorders and neurodegenerative diseases;
- Pharmacogenetics of the efficacy and tolerability of psychotropic medications;
- Drug resistance in major psychiatric disorders;
- Personalized treatment approaches.
Particular emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary research, integrating expertise in psychiatry, neuropsychology, genetics, and neuroscience.
The Observatory also promotes educational, training, and outreach activities in these areas of study.
