Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe

The EU’s new research and innovation programme has a budget of approximately €95.5 billion for the 2021–2027 period. This represents a 30% increase compared with the previous research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020, making Horizon Europe the world’s most ambitious research and innovation programme.

It primarily funds research and innovation activities through open and competitive calls for proposals. The overall objective of Horizon Europe is to generate scientific, technological, economic and societal impact from the EU’s investments in research and innovation, in order to:

  • strengthen the European Union’s scientific and technological foundations and promote its competitiveness across all Member States;

  • implement the European Union’s strategic priorities and contribute to the achievement of European policies, helping to address the global challenges, as set out in the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate change;

  • strengthen the European Research Area.
