The LIFE Programme 2021–2027, governed by Regulation (EU) 2021/783, is the EU programme aimed at protecting the environment, including habitats, species and biodiversity, promoting the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources, environmental protection and governance to safeguard human health, tackling pollutant emissions and climate change, improving policies and governance, and introducing more effective systems in the environmental field.
The overall objective of the Programme is to contribute to the transition towards a sustainable, circular, energy-efficient economy based on renewable energy sources, which is climate-neutral and resilient to climate change. In addition, the programme aims to contribute to protecting and improving the quality of the environment and to halting and reversing the process of biodiversity loss, thereby fostering sustainable development.
The budget of the LIFE Programme increased to €5.4 billion between 2021 and 2027.

- Climate change mitigation and adaptation
- Clean energy transition.
