As part of the University’s initiatives for social engagement with the local community, and in collaboration with Amnesty International’s Brescia 028 Group, the Department of Law will host the photographic exhibition “Under the Sky of Gaza”, organised by Amnesty International Italy.
The exhibition comprises a selection of 22 photographs by Omar El Qattaa, a freelance photographer prior to the war who went on to collaborate with – and continues to work for – international agencies such as AFP and the Associated Press, and who is one of the few courageous photographers remaining in the north of the Gaza Strip since the start of the Israeli war in October 2023.
Both a witness and a victim, Omar has relentlessly documented and exposed the devastating impact on the Palestinian population of Gaza caused by Israeli attacks, forced displacement and the denial of humanitarian aid. His powerful images have not only provided invaluable testimony to events that would otherwise have gone unnoticed, but have also helped to amplify the call for an end to the war and the quest for justice and peace; they offer a significant opportunity for the university community and the general public to raise awareness and deepen their understanding, encouraging discussion and reflection on human rights issues.
