A famous actress, an internationally renowned lawyer and a court case that dominated the pages of the newspapers of the time.
And so, towards the end of the nineteenth century, the paths of Eleonora Duse and Giuseppe Zanardelli crossed.
Archival documents bring to light a story that sheds light on the legal implications of the case surrounding the actress’s cancelled American tour and, at the same time, captures the spirit of an entire era and its vibrant international scene.
On the bicentenary of the birth of the lawyer from Brescia, this is an opportunity to gain a closer insight, through the dialogue preserved in their correspondence, into two extraordinary figures who, in different roles, left their mark on Italian history.
