In the last decades, Switzerland – under the influence of both international and European initiatives – has developed a number of instruments to encourage and/or require business enterprises to behave in accordance with internationally recognized CSR standards. Some aspects were implemented through binding legislatives acts, while others through soft law. Tools of Swiss democracy played a pivotal role in this process too. The seminar will provide a critical perspective on these dynamics starting from an illustration of the constitutional framework and focusing then on some more significant examples also with a comparative approach.
