On the occasion of Bergamo and Brescia being selected as joint Italian Capital of Culture 2023, the Ateneo di Brescia – Accademia di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, in collaboration with the Ateneo di Scienze Lettere ed Arti of Bergamo, has organized the international conference ‘The Sword, the House, the Heresy. The Martinengo family between Brescia, Bergamo and Europe (16 th -18 th c.)’. Scientific Committee: Elisa Sala, Enrico Valseriati, Paolo Maria Amighetti, Gabriele Medolago.
The conference will be held at Palazzo Tosio (via Tosio 12, Brescia), the academic seat of the Ateneo di Brescia, on 15 and 16 June 2023, with a rich programme of papers by historians and scholars from Italian and foreign universities, associations, and research centres. The aim of this two-day scientific event is to shed light on various aspects of the political, cultural, social, and economic life of one of the most distinctive families in the aristocratic history of Brescia and Bergamo during the early modern era. The speakers have been able to draw on the rich archival sources held throughout Europe that tell of the many ramifications that the Martinengo family had across the continent and especially in the early modern Lombard, Venetian, and Mediterranean political spaces. This conference has been sponsored by the University of Brescia.
Attendance is free with no registration, on a first come basis.
The conference can also be attended remotely.
