Alessandro Metelli, PhD student at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DIMI) of the University of Brescia, and Andrea Abeni, researcher at the same department, illustrate the Inceptum project, of which they are founders. Inceptum is one of the few independent manufacturers in Italy that handles the entire design and production of mechanical wristwatches, born from the combination of academic expertise and entrepreneurial spirit.

The name Inceptum, from the Latin incipit, meaning beginning, recalls the origins of the idea, which was born during university studies, combining a passion for watchmaking with the skills acquired at university. After three years of research in the DIMI Ultra-Precision Machining Laboratory located at CSMT, the two young engineers developed the Calibre I-01, a hand-wound mechanical movement, handling every stage of the creative process, from design to production of the individual components.

The new mechanical movement was housed in Sigma, the brand's first model presented in 2023. A watch 100% Made in Brescia, a true jewel of precision mechanics inspired by vintage design. The second Inceptum model is coming later this year.

Today, Inceptum is licensed to the startup Kairos Innovation, a spin-off of the University of Brescia founded in 2022, which focuses on innovation in the field of precision mechanics.
