For more than a decade, the Department of Law Book Series has served as a distinguished platform for academic development and scholarly dissemination. It provides early-career researchers with an authoritative institutional venue through which to enter the academic community on the basis of recognized scholarly merit, while offering established scholars a prestigious forum both for advancing the transmission of legal knowledge and for contributing to legal debate at the national, European, and international levels. The Series has further expanded its international reach through partnerships with foreign publishers currently made available by Giappichelli.
The development of the Series is overseen by the Scientific Board, which operates in close cooperation with the Department Council. The Board consists of the current Head of the Department and three Full Professors appointed by the Department Council upon the proposal of the Head of the Department, who also designates one of them as Editor-in-Chief of the Series. At present, the Scientific Board is composed of Professor Adriana Apostoli (Head of the Department), Professor Aldo Andrea Cassi, and Professor Alberto Venturelli, while Professor Chiara Minelli serves as Editor-in-Chief.
In order to ensure compliance with the highest academic publishing standards, the Series is supported by a permanent and internationally oriented Editorial Committee. The Committee is composed of at least five Full Professors for each Academic Disciplinary Sector represented within the Department. Members are selected from Italian and international universities on the basis of their established academic reputation and expertise. The complete and updated list of Committee members is published in each volume.
From among the members of the Editorial Committee, all formally appointed by the Editor-in-Chief, the Scientific Board appoints, by random selection, two reviewers (or three in the event of divergent assessments) to evaluate each manuscript submitted for publication. The reviewers' signed reports are produced in accordance with a double-blind peer-review procedure and are retained by the Scientific Board.
Recognizing the diversity of scholarly outputs produced within the broader national and international academic community, the Series has adopted differentiated evaluation procedures tailored to the nature of the works submitted.
To this end, the Series is organized into three sections:
1. Department of Law Book Series
The principal section, entitled simply Department of Law Book Series, publishes monographs and edited volumes that have successfully undergone a double-blind peer-review process. Reviewers are selected by lot from the Editorial Committee members listed in each published volume.
2. Working Papers of the Department of Law
The second section, entitled Working Papers of the Department of Law, is dedicated to collective and individual scholarly studies, including interdisciplinary works produced by individual researchers or by research groups of varying degrees of institutionalization. In this case, submissions are evaluated directly by the Scientific Board, which may seek the advice of external experts in the relevant fields whenever deemed appropriate.
3. Selected Writings
The third section, entitled Selected Writings, includes festschrifts, memorial volumes, and conference proceedings. As publications intended to celebrate significant scholarly achievements, distinguished academic figures, or notable events within the scientific community, these works are issued in a particularly prestigious format while remaining fully consistent with the visual identity of the Series as a whole.
With regard to the Working Papers of the Department of Law and Selected Writings sections, the Scientific Board performs the evaluative role traditionally assigned, under current national academic standards, to a non-anonymous Scientific Committee
