Working Group on Gender-Specific Medicine

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the Working Group on Gender-Specific Medicine are to raise the profile of gender-specific medicine and to identify specific measures aimed at training students, academic staff and healthcare professionals, alongside raising awareness within the community.

Areas of action:

  • To promote and organise training programmes on aspects of gender-specific medicine for students at all stages of their degree programmes (single-cycle master’s degree, three-year bachelor’s degree, master’s degree) and postgraduate studies (specialist medical schools, PhD programmes, master’s programmes), with particular reference to courses in the biomedical field.
  • To stimulate interest within the academic community, particularly amongst lecturers involved in teaching and research, in research on gender differences, by encouraging studies in this field and incorporating training into their teaching.
  • To educate and raise awareness amongst healthcare professionals and researchers regarding the importance of a gender-sensitive medical approach, with a particular emphasis on prevention.
  • To inform and engage the general public and patients on the principles and benefits of gender-specific medicine, through communication and outreach initiatives.
