The integrated Master's degree in Medicine and Surgery has nationwide programmed numbers, delivered in Italian.
Ministerial Decree No. 418 of May 30, 2025, the first implementing ministerial decree (ref. art. 4, co. 3 and art. 5, co. 1, of Legislative Decree No. 71 of May 15, 2025) of the reform regarding access to integrated Master's degree in Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, has been published.
The main changes:
Filter semester: the student enrolls in the filter semester of the courses in Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics and, at the same time, in one of the related courses indicated in Article 8 of the Ministerial Decree. Enrollment in the filter semester is possible a maximum of three times, even in non-consecutive academic years.
Registration procedure: the registration for the filter semester must be submitted online through the Universitaly portal (www.universitaly.it), by the month of July. The opening and closing dates of the portal are defined annually by the Ministry.
At the time of registration, it is necessary to indicate:
- the site of only one of the two courses, between Medicine or Dentistry, where one intends to attend the filter semester, and the related course where one intends to enroll;
- at least ten sites where one intends to continue the course in Medicine or Dentistry, the first of which must coincide with the one chosen for the filter semester, for the hypothesis of useful placement in the national ranking list;
- at least ten locations where one intends to continue the course of study in the related course of study, for the hypothesis of not being placed in a useful position in the national ranking list;
- in case of disability equal to or greater than 66% or disability with certification under Article 3, paragraph 3, of Law no. 104/1992, to be in possession of the related certificate of disability;
- in the case that the student is already enrolled in the Medicine and Surgery program, the Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics program, or a related course, they must indicate which of the following subjects - Chemistry and Biochemical Propedeutics, Physics, and Biology - they have already attended, providing suitable documentation to prove their attendance;
- to be in possession of an ISEE value equal to or less than € 27,948.60.
Duration, teaching, attendance and cost: the filter semester normally lasts from September 1 to November 30 and consists of 3 teachings, to each of which are assigned 6 educational credits (CFUs): a) Chemistry and biochemical propaedeutics; b) Physics; c) Biology.
Attendance at the filter semester is compulsory; the lump-sum fee for enrollment in the filter semester is defined by ministerial decree and must be paid to the university chosen as the place of attendance, by the deadline set by the MUR. The temporary enrollment in the first semester of one of the related courses is free of charge and does not entail any compulsory attendance for the student.
Examinations: at the end of the educational activities, the student has two exam sittings for each course, at least fifteen days apart, the dates of which are defined by the MUR by annual provision. Each examination consists of the administration of thirty-one (31) questions, fifteen (15) of which are multiple-choice and sixteen (16) are answer by completion mode. The examinations are graded in thirtieths, in addition to honors which which is given the value of one point. For inclusion in the ranking list, the score is awarded as follows:
- 1 point for each correct answer;
- 0 points for each omitted answer;
- minus 0.25 (- 0.25) points for each incorrect answer.
A maximum of ninety-three (93) points is awarded for the overall evaluation of the three examinations. The student is given the opportunity to waive the grade obtained in each examination in order to take it again at the next roll call of the same filter semester or in case of new enrollment.
National ranking list: only students who have obtained in each examination a score of not less than eighteen out of thirty (18/30) access the ranking list for the purpose of continuing their studies in the course in Medicine or in the course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics.
In case of failure to achieve a useful position in the ranking list, or in case of waiver of enrollment in Medicine or Dentistry, students may enroll in the second semester of the related course of study, with the guarantee of full recognition of the CFUs earned in the filter semester, according to the order of the ranking list of related courses.
Students who do not access the ranking list due to failure to pass all the profit examinations of the filter semester, or in case of waiver of the grade achieved in at least one of the profit examinations taken, may enroll in another course of study, subject to the access requirements provided by the current regulations and in the presence of available places.
For this purpose, it is strongly recommended that the student take the admission tests for the programmed access courses in which he/she is interested.
The criteria for the formation of the ranking list and the procedures for the allocation of seats in the course of study in Medicine or Dentistry, or in the related course, are established by special ministerial decree.
