Tips on how to write your curriculum vitae

The purpose of a CV is to give the reader an understanding of who you are and what you can do, what your knowledge and skills are, your interests and aptitudes, so as to quickly give a clear idea of yourself and arouse the interest of the person you are addressing.

Therefore, it is important that:

  • it is brief (there is no need to include too much information), clear, precise and easy to read, including from a graphic point of view, without errors and typed on a computer;
  • ensure that the information is truthful and not invented, but avoid including unfavourable information, which is better explained verbally;
  • ensure that there are no attachments that are not expressly requested;
  • ensure that it is “tailored” to the profile of the recipient company, so as to highlight the most relevant information relating to your educational, professional or personal background.

You can use the Europass CV template (see link at the bottom of the page).

Also remember that in your cover letter you need to:

  • summarise your characteristics in relation to the needs of the individual company;
  • personalise the letter according to the individual company you are applying to;
  • explain why it is important for the company to consider your application;
  • ask for an interview.
