Environmental Sanitary Engineering

The group

The Research Group of Environmental Sanitary Engineering deals with environmental pollution phenomena, quality and treatment of drinking water, quality and treatment of urban and industrial wastewater, characteristics and management criteria of urban and special waste, methods and technologies for material and energy recovery from waste, remediation of contaminated sites, criteria for the design and management of water and waste treatment plants, environmental technologies in contexts of limited resources.

Research activity

The main research topics, all active in the field of sanitary-environmental engineering, are dealt essentially through experimental activities. They concern the technological, process and managem
ent aspects in the following areas:

  • treatment of water for human consumption,
  • treatment of urban wastewater,
  • treatment of industrial wastewater and aqueous waste,
  • recovery and disposal of urban and special waste, and sewage sludge,
  • circular economy and industrial symbiosis,
  • remediation of contaminated sites.

Within the group, the following activities are reported: the Working Group on "Management of wastewater treatment plants", which sees the collaboration of more than 150 experts; the Research Center “Appropriate technologies for environmental management in countries with limited resources (CeTAmb), and the Research Center "Environmental remediation and recovery of degraded areas and contaminated sites" (CeRAR).
