Economic crisis and social struggles in the pandemic era

12-16 September 2022

The summer school addresses the topic of the economic crisis in the pandemic era, by discussing its economic and financial causes, social consequences, recovery policies and popular reactions. The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical basis for understanding the dynamics of the crisis through a close discussion of the economic literature and the study of proposed policy solutions.

Lectures will address the economic literature on the crisis, focusing on mainstream theory, Marxist theory and heterodox schools. Lectures from Latin America will deepen the theme of the crisis in the globalised economy and the different role of central and peripheral countries in the confrontation/clash between imperialist blocs. The School's lecturers come from the Universities of Brescia, El Salvador, Cuba and Nicaragua. Courses are held in English, Spanish and Italian, mostly face-to-face, with some videoconference connections. The course is mainly aimed at students and researchers in economics or, more generally, in social sciences. However, no academic qualification or theoretical requirement is required. Selection is based on CV and a letter of motivation to be sent to Professor Giulio Palermo ([email protected]). One third of the places are reserved for foreign students. Lessons are held in the Department of Economics and Management from 12 to 16 September, with the following timetable: 8.30 - 12.30; 14.30 - 18.00. The course is entirely free of charge and, within the limits of requests and available funds, a contribution to expenses is possible for non-resident students. Participation in the course allows the acquisition of 1 cfu.
