THE World University Rankings 2026 rewards Unibs research

In the 2026 edition of THE World University Rankings, the prestigious international ranking compiled by the independent British magazine Times Higher Education on the best universities in the world, the University of Brescia is the top public university in Italy in the “Research Quality” category, which measures the quality of scientific output, ranking 147th in the world. The University remains in the 351-400 range globally, maintaining its position despite an increase in the total number of universities evaluated, 2,191 universities compared to 2,092 in the last edition. Nationally, the University ranks 13th out of 54 Italian universities included in the ranking.

‘We are extremely proud of our position as Italy's leading public university in terms of scientific research quality,’ comments Rector Prof. Francesco Castelli. This extraordinary result, achieved thanks in part to our close relationships with healthcare, social and business institutions in our region, demonstrates that we are a public university rooted in the local community but with a global outlook, one that has distinguished itself for the quality of its scientific contributions thanks to the excellence of the work shared by a passionate and competent academic community'.

‘The “Research Quality” indicator takes into account fundamental aspects such as the number of citations, influence and excellence of the research produced,’ emphasises Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Renata Mansini. "It is not only the excellence of our researchers that is being rewarded, but also the strategic choices made to create a research ecosystem capable of growing and generating global impact. We will continue to invest in international projects, cutting-edge infrastructure and high-profile scientific collaborations'.

THE World University Rankings evaluates universities based on 18 performance indicators grouped into five macro areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook. Overall, compared to the previous edition of the rankings, scores have increased for the categories of Research Environment, Teaching and International Outlook.
