Two-factor authentication
Account security has historically relied solely on password protection. However, as cyber threats have evolved, static passwords have become a vulnerability: on their own, they are no longer enough to ensure data security.
For this reason, the University of Brescia has decided to raise its security standards by introducing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on its login portal. According to cybersecurity experts, this is the most effective method to protect your digital identity, as it adds a secondary layer of security on top of your password.
The activation of 2FA will be rolled out to all users. The specific timeline and procedures will be shared with those involved via official communications.
How to activate the service: Each user can independently complete the activation by visiting the following link: https://unibs.2fa.cineca.it/
Prerequisites: This process requires using an authenticator app. Supported and recommended apps include:
A smartphone is not required. During the setup process on the website, simply scan the QR code or save the secret code displayed on the screen using your preferred application.
You will also be asked to enter your phone number to set up a recovery system in case of any issues.
Once the setup is complete, a new code will be generated every 30 seconds. This code is known as a TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password). Essentially, it is a random, time-based password. If your main password is stolen, the TOTP will still be required to log in.
