The University of Brescia dedicates the Great Hall of the Faculty of Medicine to the memory of Prof. Augusto Preti. The occasion is to witness the university community's profound gratitude to its Rector Emeritus, the first Rector of our University, who remained in office for twenty-seven years from 1983 to 2010, and who dedicated his life to knowledge, research, and young people, contributing decisively to the growth of the Brescia area.
Brescian by birth, born in 1941, Prof. Augusto Preti had graduated in 1965 with a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Milan, Full Professor since 1980 of biological chemistry at the Milanese university, in 1982 he had exercised the option to transfer to the nascent University of Brescia, immediately configuring himself as one of the most prominent personalities of that university.
Under his leadership The University of Brescia achieved important milestones in scientific and cultural terms. Prof. Preti was a promoter of the construction of the North Campus and the acquisition and restoration of historic buildings in the center of Brescia, intended to house the University's various faculties. This choice, shared with local authorities, aimed at integrating the University into the urban fabric and enhancing the city's architectural heritage.
