Salute in Comune 2025 | Toward a sustainable diet: how to eat while respecting the planet

Friday 20 June 2025, 1:00 P.M.
Sala del Camino, Palazzo Martinengo delle Palle - Via San Martino della Battaglia 18, Brescia

On Friday, June 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Sala del Camino in Palazzo Martinengo delle Palle (Via San Martino della Battaglia 18, Brescia) there will be a meeting of the Salute in Comune 2025 cycle entitled “Toward a sustainable diet: how to eat while respecting the planet.”

There is scientific evidence that the rise in global temperature is related to human activities, particularly the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. With population growth and changing food patterns, food production has turned into an intensive, industrial system, leading to unsustainable exploitation of natural resources. Global consumption of these resources has exceeded the capacity of ecosystems to regenerate them, resulting in a negative balance for the planet. Even water, a resource essential to the lives of all living things, is often consumed improperly, if not wasted. According to the Global Footprint Network, August 1, 2024, was Earth Overshoot Day: in just seven months, humanity has exhausted the resources it takes the Earth a full year to regenerate. To counter the overconsumption of natural resources, many companies are developing synthetic food. In the face of a climate crisis generated by the pursuit of prosperity at any cost, there are entire populations suffering from hunger due to famine or armed conflict. Will we be able to rediscover a balance with the planet? The answer depends on each of us, on the collective will to change, innovate and educate toward a sustainable future.
