The University of Brescia dedicates the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine to the memory of Prof. Augusto Preti. The occasion is to testify to the university community's profound gratitude to its Rector Emeritus, the first Rector of our University, who held office for twenty-seven years from 1983 to 2010, and who dedicated his life to knowledge, research, and young people, making a decisive contribution to the growth of the Brescia area.
Born in Brescia in 1941, Prof. Augusto Preti graduated in 1965 with a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Milan. A full professor of biological chemistry at the Milanese university since 1980, in 1982 he exercised the option to transfer to the newly founded University of Brescia, immediately establishing himself as one of the university's leading figures.
Under his leadership, the University of Brescia achieved important scientific and cultural milestones. Prof. Preti was the promoter of the construction of the North Campus and the acquisition and restoration of historic buildings in the centre of Brescia to house the University's various faculties. This choice, shared with the local authorities, was aimed at integrating the University into the urban fabric and enhancing the city's architectural heritage.
