The Last Days. The Adamello glacier in photographs by Michele Gusmeri

Thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Alpine Club of Brescia, the photographic exhibition "The Last Days. The Adamello Glacier in the photographs of Michele Gusmeri" will be on display in the entrance hall of the Engineering Department at Via Branze 38. This exhibition is a story told through images that documents the fragility of our times and the beauty that still remains, suspended between science, art and environmental awareness.

UNESCO and the WMO (World Meteorological Organisation) have launched 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Protection. It is in this context that the project promoted by Cai Brescia was born. Thanks to the artistic and documentary vision of Michele Gusmeri's photographs, it bears witness to the dramatic retreat of the largest concentration of ice in the Italian Alps, the Adamello glacier.

A powerful visual narrative that confirms the urgency of an unprecedented environmental challenge, immortalising the ephemeral beauty of an ice colossus destined to disappear. A touching portrait that shows the glacier at this specific moment in time: its final days. According to the mathematical model developed by researchers at our University, the glacier will disappear by the end of the century: environmental issues caused by climate change are leading it to collapse at an ever-increasing rate, with effects that are now noticeable year after year by those who frequent the area.

The photographic exhibition is open to the public with free admission until 21 January, Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.
